I was preparing a pack of microwaveable rice and, as they always do when they hear a packet of something crinkling, my two 7-month-old cats thought it was dinner and came running to me. I couldn’t resist their cute look, and I dropped one small ball of stuck-together rice, which I estimate was about 5 centimetres in diameter, into one of their food bowls. After a while, I remembered myself and picked it up and put it in the bin, but a few stray pieces of rice which had fallen out with the ball had been eaten.
The rice was not cooked. The brand was Sun Rice, it was white Jasmine rice.
- Will anything happen to my cats from eating the few stray pieces of rice?
- If one of them picks up the ball of rice from the bin and eats it, will anything happen to them then?
