For some context I live with grandmother while going to a nearby college. She is very stubborn and refuses to ever take any of our pets (save the dog) to the vet because "it's a waste of money". We have a dog and three cats (two of which are mine and I'm taking with me as soon as I graduate and leave next year). They've all been to the vets a few times to get spayed/neutered and their shots but that is it.
One of my family cats, the one that isn't mine, is about 6 years old and for her entire life has only ever had diarrhea - no solid poops. Recently she stopped being able to make the litterbox and my grandmother is furious. Mt grandma keeps going on about how she's gonna kill the cat. I'm assuming by kill she means put to sleep but with how mad she is I'm just slightly worried.
I don't know what to do. I suggested taking the cat to a vet but my grandmother is convinced taking sick animals to the vets costs TENS of thousands of dollars and no hard evidence will convince her otherwise. Like I said, a very stubborn woman. She's also convinced that whatever this cat has is permanent and will never be cured which I say there's no way to know since it has never been checked out.
I've never rehomed a cat or any other animal before and am unsure how to proceed or even if I should - my grandmother used to threaten this with another cat we had as a kid which was always getting sick on the carpet but never actually did anything. Still, I'm not sure it's fair to this cat to leave the situation as is. Any advice is appreciated.
