I’ll post a TL;DR at the end.
So there has been this female cat hanging out outside of my apartment for the past 2 months. At first I had thought one of my neighbors had just let their cat roam outside from time to time. But come to find out what had actually happened was the cat was given to a younger neighbor of mine by her aunt, and the neighbor decided she didn’t want to have her anymore. So instead of returning the cat to her aunt, she just booted her of out her apartment.
That’s when I took it upon myself to try and feed her since she wasn’t looking very good. She started to come around and be more friendly towards me as I would meet her by my door every night I got back from work. That’s when I started to offer her to come inside with me too, and after about a week she warmed up even more and started darting into the apartment the moment I opened my door, waiting for her nightly meal. And then after would lounge around for a few hours either napping beside on the ground or laying right on top of my chest while I laid on the couch. Then she would ask to go back outside once she had enough from her visit only to be seen the next night.
Fast forward to today: I left for work this morning and my girlfriend was over at my place for the day and had the cat inside for company. Now mind you this is out of place seeing as how she only stopped by at night whenever I’d get off work. My girlfriend decides to take a bath while I’m gone, and after she gets out of the bathroom she can hear the sound of newborn kittens. And they’re coming from underneath my bed. And that’s where I’m at. I have a clean towel in a cardboard box prepped for the cat and her kittens, but I’m at a total loss of what I should do next.
Now the thing is, I honestly didn’t know she was pregnant. She was smaller than what I’d normally see a pregnant cat look like, There were days where her stomach looked like it was getting bigger, and then days where she’d look normal. I wondered if she was getting food from somewhere else while I would be at work all day, but pregnancy didn’t cross my mind seeing as how frail and weak she looked when I first ran into her.
Also keep in mind that the apartment complex I live in has a “No Pets” policy, and I had no intentions on keeping the cat as a personal pet but making sure she is fed and taken care of. I’ve lived at this place for 6 years and the last thing I need currently is to be evicted.
TL;DR: A cat gave birth underneath my bed, I have no idea what to do, and I am asking for help.
