How do you deal with the guilt of rehoming your beloved pet?

Just a little backstory.

My boyfriend and I found our baby Bubbles when he was a tiny little guy just a few weeks old. He was abandoned and was close to death, so we took him home and absolutely fell in love with his stupid butt. He's now 8 months old and we just couldn't imagine parting with him to strangers or a shelter.

We currently live in a trailer in a bad neighborhood. Our home is absolutely infested with termites and mold and the landlord refuses to do anything. We're expecting our first child and have to move ASAP. We found a place, but the stipulation is no pets, and no exceptions.

So anyway, we found a home for him with my aunt and uncle who have plenty of room to run and play and 2 other cats to give him company, but I just can't get past the guilt and grief of having to give him up. I feel like we're abandoning him, but for the sake of our health and the health of our unborn child, we have to make these decisions.

Will he feel abandoned, or do you think he'd adjust to having new toys and new playmats in a clean and happy home where we can still visit him?

TL;DR: We have to move for sanitation issues and can't bring our cat. How do you cope with the grief of having to rehome your pet?
