A couple days ago my boyfriend and I brought home an 8 week old kitten. We thought he would be a nice companion for me while my bf is working long hours. My current cat is four months shy of two years old. He means so much to me, he just isn't a lap cat and I've been craving a little more comfort. We thought that a small kitten would be least threatening to him, but he hasn't been reacting how we imagined. I knew he wouldn't accept the kitten at first, but I figured he would show his irritation by hissing. He hasn't hissed or growled one time, but he has been silently stalking the kitten and pouncing on him. His body language is very subtle and it's terrifying when he runs at the kitten and attacks him without making a sound. Yesterday this happened a lot, but he has also groomed the kitten a couple times, played with him (gently), fallen asleep with him, and been chill around him. I'm not sure if he's actually trying to hurt the kitten or just doesn't know how to play with a creature so small, but he bites his neck.
Anyways we have been trying our best. My boyfriend is heartbroken because we've had to shut our cat out of the room the last few nights and keep the kitten with us. I told him we can't leave the kitten alone in the bathroom all night. He's convinced it will be months of doing this and it's going to ruin our relationship with our first cat. I'm worried too and I miss sleeping with him. I don't know what to do, but I've bonded with this kitten and I don't want to give him away because of this.
