How do homeless, unvaccinated cats and dogs survive when they are surrounded by sick animals?

I live in a city where there are street cats everywhere. Most cats aren't vaccinated/only got rabies vaccination. Like in my condo alone there are 8-10 cats at any time. Last week two of them had fungal infection (they were taken to the city's vet clinic but no doubt they interacted with other street cats until then.)

I'm super glad that they are surviving of course but how? Not like they get the best food or the cleanest water either as you can imagine. Is it because their immune system gets stronger when they grow up in the street and if not they die when they are kittens? Or do they get naturally vaccinated when they naturally interact with viruses/bacterias?
