My dog is sucking the life out of me

So, I adopted our second dog from a senior dog rescue in 2017, and he’s sucking the life out of my partner and I. I feel guilty because I wanted to give him a better home, but at this point my partner and I are feeling some serious compassion fatigue.

This sweet old dog has serious anxiety. I had to have medicated baths for a year before I gave up on his skin issues, which has led me down the rabbit hole of cooking for him. He was diagnosed with a thyroid condition, and is on medication. He regularly falls down our stairs, so we have to carry him or at least stand behind him so he doesn’t fall backwards. He got scared of a chicken and fell into a fire pit of hot coals and had to have all four paws bandaged, along with antibiotics, and ointment. He began uncontrollably urinating waterfalls all over our house and yard. If water is not put out, his anxiety strikes and he paces forever to find it. (Shhheeeeeeeshhhhh!! So many things when written out!)

And the icing on the cake is that he was diagnosed with diabetes and a UTI this week. So, we now give insulin twice a day, and more antibiotics...

Has anyone else dished out this much energy for their pet? Am I crazy for doing so much? What are others experience with dog diabetes? Any words of wisdom? Help me pet people!!
