Hello All,
I’m in a slight dilemma. I’m currently on an internship for 10 weeks in another state, and I brought my cat along as an ESA. She’s been a heap of help and so resilient, but my issue is that I have to keep her confined to one room in the house I’m staying at. I told the tenant (I’m subleasing) that I had a cat and I was bringing her, which she said was okay. She didn’t tell me until after I had arrived that my cat would have to remain in my room, or let out only on the second floor with all the other doors closed, as one of the girls downstairs is allergic. Mind you, all the living area/interesting things are downstairs, and the upstairs is just essentially a hallway lined with bedrooms. My room is decently sized and has 3 windows, one of which is well screened in so I leave it open for my cat to perch at during the day. I also brought her tree and scratching posts, but at the end of the day I spend 4/7ths of the week away at work, which means my cat spends majority of her day confined. I’ve been to harness walk her around the house when no one is home, and I’ve tried to take her outside but she’s still too scared. I also feel hostage too, because I try to make up for being away at work Mon-Thurs and stay holed up in the room with her. I feel so awful, and I want to know if she will mentally be okay over the next 6 weeks? I’ve asked my subleaser what we can do to mitigate this, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?
