Hi! My name is Lucy and my cat’s name is Yugo. He is about five years old and I have had him for a bit over a year. He’s the cuddliest loving guy, however sometimes he acts out and I’m trying to get some advice to figure out why.
He often approaches me for love and pets! He’s always my little spoon while we sleep and he’s totally the love of my life. However sometime without warning he’ll act out quite aggressively without warning. Sometimes after walking across the room, or after stopping petting him when he give clear “back off” signs, he’ll lunge and attack. Biting and scratching often breaking the skin. He normally warns me that he is going to bite with angry meows (he talks a lot so I can tell when he’s upset), and widening of the eyes. But I always do what I can to avoid upsetting him further. I try consoling him (which is often the best way to postpone the attack), and ignoring him when I can tell he’s about to jump at me. I’ve tried discipline with spraying with water, saying “ouch”, and even time outs. He’s very easy to read and tell that he’s upset so I know when to leave him alone. However even after I get him off me he often returns to lunge at me again.
And ideas? I love him dearly and I am planning on getting a behaviorist to sort this out, but I figured maybe visiting reddit wouldn’t be a bad idea to start with.
