About month and half ago, one cat scratched his face until it bled, taken to vet for antibiotic shot. The other one was sneezing a lot with some scratching (not as bad). The one taken to vet was on elizabeth collar, so he couldn't scratch, the other one was still sneezing (although not as bad).
Took both to another vet, both previous one and this vet were suspicious of food allergies and/or environmental changes (outside or cleaning supplies, etc). Tossed the food, did bland diet for a while (just chicken breast & chicken wet food cans). Not much improvement. I put them on brand new food for first time, not much improvement. I got air duct cleaning and steam carpet cleaning done since I was more suspicious of dust / dust mites and my allergies were getting worse too.
On the same day, I had reservation for vet again (since symptoms were still there and they had brown/black ear wax). Vet confirmed it's not flea/ticks/ear mites. Vet gave steriod shots, prescribed Revolution, and suggested prescription food for food allergy trial. Not sure if it was cleaning that helped or Revolution, but most symptoms are gone. However, they are both still shaking their ears , although ears are not as dirty as before. Wondering if I should still try the food allergy prescription food trial (hydrolyzed protein). Is it possible for both cats to develop food allergy at the same time?
Tl;dr Cats had some allergic symptoms, got a lot better, but still shaking ears. Wondering if it is possible or both cats to develop food allergy at the same time or keep an eye on them for a bit longer or try to find other cause?
