I have a 7/8 year old intact male dog who began bleeding from his penis 11 nights ago. 10 nights ago we took him to the vet who suggested labs but said they had an emergency call and it would take hours. Recommended I made an appointment for another day and prescribed antibiotics. That night, 4 hours later, he gushed blood from his penis for 3-4 minutes. Rushed to vet. No injury on exam. Slightly elevated White Blood Cell count therefore no ingestion. Xray of urinary tract shows no stones or blockage. Xray of prostate looks normal. Vet asked if we were sure he was bleeding from his penis and said they had no clue and we should maybe get am ultrasound. About a week ago bleeding stopped completely for just over 48 hours. Then it started again. About a quarter size stain in his diaper 3-4 times a day. Tonight he is on day 10 of his antibiotics and just gushed again for a couple minutes. This time I noticed a red rocket. We have an appointment with another vet on Friday. We think this might be a prostate issue and hope this new veg will neuter him. This whole time he has not showed any signs of pain or discomfort. Normal appetite and bowel movements and urination.
Has anyone's intact male dog consistently bled from his penis? Has anyone's dog gushed from his penis? Any tips, suggestions, advice?
