So last night I decided to sleep on the big sectional couch in our living room, and I woke up to find one of my cats sitting perched on top of the couch right next to me. This isn’t super out of the ordinary, he usually perches on top of the couch, even has a favorite spot. But I’ve never seen him sit on the end that I was sleeping at. So it made me curious if it was a protective thing maybe?
Typically we leave the cats and dogs out in the rest of the house while we are sleeping in our rooms, so maybe it was just because it was something out of the ordinary? My family has had this cat since I was in junior high, and now I’m a senior in college. My whole life this cat has never been a big fan of affection, he always wanted to be left alone, so I doubt him sitting near me was a wanting attention thing. But it got me thinking as to wherever cats have a protective instinct and maybe that’s what this was?
