So I am wanting to get a cat before I get a puppy (because I can teach the puppy to not annoy the cat and the cat can fight back or run away faster but that's not really the crucial question as of now) and I am not sure which cat would be best ( I have eyes on one from a shelter but I got suggested another cat from someone I know ) I will make a list of things below from both (they are both indoor cats) and I would like to have your opinion as to which would be better. Thank you for your help!
Sheltered cat:
- 13 yrs old, male
- blind (his eyes are black basically... makes him look really cute) but I guess there is a lot to consider with that problem
- a big cat (not fat)
- not clean but can manage sometimes to do the right stuff in the litter box
- loves cuddles / super affectionate
- had 4 homes and always got given back so I really wanted to give a final home for him because that's sad and he gets sadder
- always takes out his claws for some sort of reassurance ? Idk he likes to dig in and release when touching anything
- he hurts not on purpose, I got scratched the moment he "hugged me" but I am sure he could learn not to
- can't be left alone or he just cries super loud apparently but I am mostly home since I can work from home
- drools when happy though I find this cute haha
- bites gently ? Idk why he does this
- apparently deaf according to one previous owner but the shelter lady said he wasn't haha
- not yet familiar with him but the moment he saw me he was super affectionate
Friend's cat:
- 13 yrs old, female
- needs kidney stones removed so like an expensive surgery but afterwards she would be fine but yeah lots of money there
- a tiny cat, siamese
- clean and educated
- never hurts unless reaallly annoyed like any animals
- I know this cat so super affectionate too8
- would be given because too territorial living with her sister that they pee everywhere where they are currently so separating them would be best and so I could get her if I pay for the surgery
- may cry in the middle of night if she demands cuddles
- playful and healthy
I think I basically said all their differences... but yeah I was more torn apart from saving a sheltered blind cat VS spending a lot of money for a healthy cat. Kinda feel like I'd betray the sheltered cat just because he is difficult compared to the other cat I just would need to get over spending a lot of money to save her too. I was thinking the blind cat could have a guiding dog later too and not be alone (if they actually like each other). But yeah I am super familiar with the siamese cat and she is too.
If I miss any crucial things to consider let me know ! I would like the make the best decision for them and also myself. :) don't want to have to give back any.
