I got a new cat two days ago and I'm a bit scared of him

He's a 7 month old cat and on his first day he ran into my bedroom so we set that up as his "safe room". Towards the end of the day he was already up on the bed with me purring and letting me pet him, cuddling etc. At night though, he started getting very hyper (Which I know is normal as they are nocturnal), but he's hyper in a very aggressive way. He pounces, bites and scratches to the point where I had to put him in the bathroom for the night. When I let him out in the morning, he was totally chill and back to being cudly and soft.

He just gets really hyper and aggressive at night and won't stop biting me no matter what I do, my hands are proof. I'm quite scared of him. He's been around the house a few times, so I'm wondering if it's okay for me to close off my room at night from him and let him roam free around house? He spends most of the time in my room with the door shut during the day. What should I do to calm him down? Any advice would really really help, thank you.
