This might be a bit of a long story so I apologise. About a month ago, my family decided to take in my great uncles dogs after he passed away. Both dogs have settled in great apart from the fact that one of them is extremely interested in our cats. The moment she’s sees our cats (we have three), she just stops and stares at them. Her teeth start chattering and she gets very close to them and then attempts to bite them. Our cats are used to dogs but they don’t really like this and I don’t want them feeling scared/threatened in their own home. Especially as two of them are quite old cats (16 & 17) and the oldest struggles with mobility. As it is, the cats fight back with a lot of hissing and hitting and though the dog is definitely scared of them now, it doesn’t stop her biting them if she gets the chance. We think it might be linked to the fact the dog originally lived over in Cyprus and there’s a lot of stray cats there that the dog would often be encouraged to chase but other than that we have no idea why. She’s a golden retriever and she’s 7 years old, is there any hope to training it out of her and if there is does anyone have any idea of how to train in out of her and why she does it?
