I am currently trying to introduce my two dogs to my partner's parents cat. They are looking after our dogs while we go on holidays, so we are staying at their house now to try and get the dogs accustomed to the house and the cat. The cat has been around big dogs before. They have also met once before when we brought our dogs for a visit and they just sniffed each other when their separate ways. So we are having more trouble than we expected. We started by keeping the dogs outside for a day and the cat inside, but the cat was scared all day just hiding in the bathroom. We then let the cat outside in the night, which is normal for him and brought the dogs inside for the night. However, when the cat came back home in the morning and saw the dogs he bolted. He has come home again a couple more times and done the same thing, regardless of whether the dogs are inside or outside. We are leaving food and water out for the cat at the front of the house where the dogs can't be seen, but don't know what else to do. We have two more days here to get them used to each other, the dogs will then be staying at my sister's for a week before they have to come back to staying here with the cat for 4 weeks. Any suggestions on what we should be doing?
