Hi !
We have had a mother and her male kitten since almost three weeks. They were Feral, we are a foster familly for cats, to socialize them before they get adopted later on.
The kitten is already quite big, we were told he should be 3 months old by now but we expect 4/5 months old. He is still suckling but also eats other food so maybe he his just big for his size.
Anyway, it went fine until two days ago when the mother started to go into heat. Since it seems to us that she has been "hitting on" her kitten, as if he was an unrelated adult male.
Thankfully the kitten doesn't seem interested, and just tries to play, but we definitely witnessed some inapropriate behaviour (genital licking ?). We are taking them to the vet on Friday (hasn't been done yet, they might still be a bit too feral)
I was wondering if someone had any advice for this situation ? It is really abnormal or do mother cat behave this way regularly ? Can we just "wait it out" ?
We can't really seperate them when we aren't home or when we are sleeping, and we don't want to cause them psychological issues (from the forced seperation).
