Hey. Me and my boyfriend have been happily together for over a year now. I moved from another country to be with him in 2018. I had 2 cats when I came here and my boyfriend loves them. Time passed and I really started to want a dog. I've always had dogs when I was a kid and I had my own dog 7 years ago which passed away. After that I dated a person for 7 years who didn't want a dog.
So now I thought it's my time to finally get a dog again. A nice lovely life companion. My current boyfriend has never had dogs and when he was a kid he was afraid of big dogs. He started to really warm up to the idea of having a dog and I really do think he would be amazing loving dog owner.
We have reserved a puppy. It's going to be a rescue dog and I am overwhelmingly happy to give him a loving home.
The problem lies here. My boyfriend gets these anxiety/over thinking "attacks" usually when he tries to fall asleep or during the day. He is afraid that the dog will consume his time and that it's going to be overwhelmingly negative experience. He is sometimes even afraid that he is afraid he won't like the dog.
I've been able to calm him down with reason. And he always if fine after that. But I can't help by to worry. I don't want anything negative towards him, he is the most kindest soul. I just get nervous as well that did I do the right thing? We already paid the reservation money for the dog. I know that of course the thought of having a dog is weird until you've had it and realized what it actually is. How can I calm my boyfriend better? I want to be there to support him but I sometimes get frustrated.. does anyone have similar experiences? I don't know what to do.
