My cat is aggressive with guests and I’m not sure what to do

I’ve had a kitten for about a year now. He’s fine with me and my roommate but whenever guests come over, he will sometimes hiss at some people while biting people's feet other times and will be vocal. He is normal around my roommate and I but sometimes has his eyes dilated which makes me think he has anxiety (his eyes dilate when guests come over too). He used to run around a lot in my apartment but I think that has stopped somewhat. Would giving my cat anti-anxiety medications help for when we have guests come over? Are their any nonmedical things I can do?

Edit: My cat is about 1 year old and we adopted him when he was about 5 weeks.
