New apartment has sensitive smoke alarms, so operating the oven at all, especially at higher temperatures, would set them off and sometimes through manual pauses. I tore them out of the ceiling and took the batteries out, but now my cats apparently associate the smells and sounds of cooking with that shrieking alarm. So they scatter and yowl and hide whenever I’m doing something even as simple as sautéeing a few vegetables.
Is there something I can do to help ease them out of this anxiety? I cook every day, and I hate that this habit is hurting them. Ventilation also isn’t great by the stove, so the place fills up pretty quickly with aromas.
