Dog is walking much better in new house

I have a 11-year-old lab mix who has struggled with weight issues (but we’re finally down a few pounds!!!). When we lived at our previous place, a smaller one-story house, he developed some soreness in his back legs. It was nothing major, but we could still tell he was in some pain when he would get up.

A few months later, we moved into a larger two-story house. I initially feared my dog would have a hard time with the stairs. It was the exact opposite. He goes up and down those stairs all of the time. He has also not appeared to be in any pain since moving here.

His weight and exercise routine (daily walks) really haven’t changed. I think it may be the stairs. Has anyone else noticed this with your dogs? Could this help other dogs with leg soreness?
