My elderly dog is terrified when left alone in a new house

Hi all,

My 16y/o Jack Russell is staying at my sharehouse for a couple of months while my parents are on holiday overseas, and since I have a sizeable backyard I was the best candidate to take him. Walking him and feeding him has been no issue so far, however because a housemate is allergic to dogs, I cannot let him into her half of the house. This means that, whenever I need to use the bathroom or make dinner for example, he has to be locked either in my bedroom or outside. This is apparently terrifying for him as he barks almost non-stop until I return, regardless of time of day.

I understand that the solution to the barking itself is a muzzle, but I would like to make him feel a lot safer in his temporary house if I can.

Thanks in advance for any help <3
