So! This will be a little long tldr at the end but here we go.also on mobile so sorry for the format....I moved a month and a half ago to an entirely new state and the first thing I saw when I pulled up was the wildly matted angel standing in the parking lot just staring, was initially a little scared so I’d always just stare back.
As time went on she would always hop into our patio and sit there jump on the car, and it wasn’t until my husband and I were setting up our patio furniture that she decided this is it we were hers..she jumped on my lap and fell asleep but as I’m petting her, I feel these awful knots and she smells and is just all around so unkept but she’s so sweet and I noticed she was declawed. Which told me that she must have either now or at some point had an owner bc I know most places require cats to be declawed..but she looked so abandoned...
It’s been a few weeks I’ve asked neighbors if she belongs to them no one has claimed her. I went to the store got food a brush whatever else I thought she’d like, but now I’m looking to take her to a vet but I don’t know what steps I need to take..she will be our first pet (we can definitely handle it) but does anyone have any similar situations?? If I take her to the vet will they keep her since she apparently has no owner or would I become her legal owner??? What would be the process? So sorry if this is dumb! But I really have no clue how adopting a stray would even work!
Tldr apparent stray cat wants me to be her mom and come inside my house, I want to let her in, but how do I adopt her????
