I once got a female cockatiel for christmas. I was really excited and after a few days began taming her. After a week a so she became really accustomed to me and would immediately jump on my finger when i wanted to take her out. She would sing and chirp when she wanted to come outside. One day i took her out in the living room and she began to flap her wings and flew on top a nearby shelf. My mom who was present in the room told me to get her a put her back in her cage. I was instructed never to take her out againt unless her wings were clipped. Interestingly enough, the same day my moms friend visited and she told me that he could clip the birds wings, with my help of course. I was against the idea of clipping my birds wings but i could not just stay and watch my bird eagerly awaiting me to take her out. She began chewing the cage bars and chirping everytime i was near her. So, i thought it had to be done. Some time later, after watching my cockatiel trying to get out her cage, i told my mom the i was taking her to my room so i can take her out without worrying about her flying away. The idea was immediately shut down with a stern NO! She called her friend and said it was time to cut my cockatiels wings. I opened the cage and my moms friend went in and tried to hold the bird. I was told he had experience so i was not too worried. He held the bird over her body and she began to cherp very loudly and eventually bit him. I was instructed that i had to clip her feathers while he held her. He extended her wing and told me to cut off all the long feathers on her entire wing. Of course i knew that only her four flight feathers were to be removed. At this point i became fearful for the result of the situation that was unfolding. But it was too late after clipping off the four feathers i realised that the bird was no longer moving. Her head hung lifelessly and my moms friend tried to place her head in her water bowl to revive her. After he handed me the corpse of my dead pet. I tried to press her chess, maybe she was still alive, but it was all futile. I was hurt, stnding there watching my cockatiel dead when minutes ago she was full of life begging me to play with her. My mom said that it was her fault but of course that never helps. She said she would just buy another one.
