My family and I have had this German Shepherd for about a year and a half now and for the most part, he was pretty great - heath-wise; within the past six months or so, his health has been slowly declining to the point where he can't walk anymore. It started out where we've had to take him to quite a few vet visits - the most frequent vet visit was today, but I'm going to explain a few of the past vet visits.
We've found out that he has hip dysplasia about six months ago, and we've tried getting him to get water therapy about six months ago but that simply didn't work out because the first vet we've went to didn't think it was a good idea because it would or wouldn't help whatsoever. So we've never tried it since and some of the most frequent vet visits was where the couple vets we've visited only gave him some pain medications, 2 or 3 of them, but they've never really helped whatsoever.
Basically about a week and a half before Christmas, my family started using a walking harness to pick him up and carry him wherever he needed to be. So the point where we're at right now is that he can't walk anymore at all, his left foot is very swollen (we think it's paralysis because of his hip dysplasia), his foot knuckles are very bloody, scraped, and quite rigid. My sister and I want to put him down and we went to a vet visit today that our mom suggested but our dad (adopter) wouldn't agree to it, even when the vet talked to our dad on the phone about it. He's basically thinking we're idiots and we're making no sense with the situation. The dog's already about 11 and he's in the age bracket where German Shepherds are prone to these issues.
We've also tried to report my dad to the ASPCA because it's basically animal cruelty, because we aren't sure at the moment as to what to do. Any advice is welcome and thanks at all if you've read this post.
