Resident cat doesn't hold back

We have a kitten and a resident cat, 12 weeks and 4 years respectively.

Our kitten likes to play, but our resident cat not so much. When the kitten attacks, he doesn't seem to be using claws, so the resident cat doesn't get hurt. But in return, the resident cat hisses and bats him. The kitten shows no sign of aggression (like hissing or growling, only the resident cat.)

We've recently discovered that our kitten has several scratches on his ear (there are raw spots). Today, the kitten was scratched just under the eye. The area is raw and the fur is gone. This is kinda odd because we just clipped resident cat's nails, but I guess it's not impossible.

Any advice on how to treat these injuries on a kitten, as well as how to get my resident cat to ease up when the kitten tries to wrestle?
