Roommate is forcing her cat to ignore me and bond with her son

So my roommate bought a cat for her young son a few months ago. Before she got a cat, she set aside no rules and joked about how the cat would instantly like me. She wasn't wrong. On the first few days, we naturally clicked and the cat constantly wanted to sleep on my bed.

Then, she send a message telling me to not let the cat sleep in my room and to let the cat bond with the other housemates first. But what she wants the most is the cat to bond with her son. So she told me eventually ill bond with the cat in the future, but after the cat gets to know everyone first. She let me watch the cat when they were on vacation at times, because she knew the cat got along with me most.

The son trying to bond with the cat....didn't go well. There were moments where the cat did approach the son, but let's just say he's still a little young to identify pet cues. He would scare the poor cat sometimes, overly pet him, or attempt to carry him. The cat would scratch him back sometimes in return.

As months passed on, the cat would only greet me at the entrance door, follow me everywhere, and only meow at my room door every morning and night. I slightly got attached too, I guess.

One day as I was petting the cat, my roommate sponatenously told me I wasn't allowed to look or pet the cat anymore and to ignore the cat. She even went as far as telling her son to scare the cat away from me. Sometimes when my roommate's high, she would tell her friends how the cat likes me more than her family and she should just give me the cat. Then when she's sober, she wants the cat to avoid me.

So to prevent drama, I wouldn't let the cat in my room. I would only pet the cat when the son or housemate is away or not seen.

Honestly i'm pretty annoyed by the whole thing. I guess in my personal opinion, a cat is a creature with feelings of their own. They're not some type of possession where they're forced to bond with someone or unlike somone. I guess if a cat likes me, why force it? Forcing a cat to ignore me won't magically make her like her son or bond with the other housemates...It's just natural. Like how humans vibe with one person more than another.

Im not exactly looking for a call in action or changes. I just needed a place to vent. My roommate is basically my landlord, so that's why I don't want to make confrontation, i need a place to stay. I guess, im more of asking if I should think of this differently and am I in the wrong or if my roommate is handling the cat the wrong way. I think i'd feel a lot better if I were pointed right or wrong... any opinions to open my mind. Opinions reddit?
