Hi guys, I'm wanting to adopt a pup for the first time but I've never had a pet before, so I have a lot to learn before I dive into this. I've been doing a bunch of research on what they need in terms of supplies, healthcare, time and space, nutrition, recreation etc but I'd like to hear about your actual experiences and how they compare to what you were told beforehand. Is there anything you think I should know before making my decision?
I plan on adopting a smaller breed and I'm probably going to look for one who isn't too young (maybe a year old) and has already been potty trained etc. I live in a single family home with a decent backyard in the suburbs, so plenty of places to walk and play. No children and one other (retired) adult lives in the house. I work from home half the time so I'm not gone for more than a few hours each day and my roommate is home all the time. I feel like my home and lifestyle are ideal for a pup, but because I've never had one before, I know I can't make any assumptions.
