Seriously considering getting a dog, would like some advice from current dog owners.

I’ve wanted to adopt a dog for a really long time, but have held back because I didn’t like the idea of adopting a pup just to leave it alone for 50+ hours a week while I had to work. I now work from home full time so I’m starting to consider it more seriously. I had dogs growing up, but the world of being a dog owner myself is pretty foreign to me and I would love to get some feedback so I can make sure I’m making an informed decision.

  • Does dog ownership generally mean waking up early every day or do they tend to follow your schedule? I’m typically up by 7am.
  • Is pet insurance typically worth it for a dog? I feel like my dog owning friends have to make way more emergency vet visits than my cat owning friends
  • I have a 7 year old female tabby. She’s been around small dogs and done really well with them. Would I be better off getting a younger dog to avoid the dog potentially terrorizing the cat?

Thank you!
