Veterinarian seeking the human-animal bond across cultures

Hello and thank you for meeting me! I am a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Arizona. My passion for animals and their humans extends well beyond the clinic walls. You see, I’ve never fully fit into my stripes as a medical scientist (more of an okapi than a zebra, for all you fellow animal nerds). Don’t get me wrong I love treating patients, but what I love more than anything is observing the close bond between pet and guardian. The examples I see of this relationship are individually special, but I can’t help to think that I’m missing something in my mission to embolden our connection with the gentler species.

The journey I am embarking on is this: to explore the rich and diverse displays of the human-animal bond across all corners of the globe.

What I am calling Year of Zooeyia (zoo-EH-ya: the positive physical and psychological benefits of human-animal interactions) will chronologically and geographically catalog demonstrations of animal festivities across the world. My hope to compile a (closely) comprehensive list of events that idealize the reverence, power, beauty, spirituality of animals and their significance to the persons of that region. This would only be truly successful by crowdsourcing local information from those who know their region and customs best, you.

By disseminating these fetes to audiences worldwide, we can hope to affirm new understandings of diverse traditions and worldviews through our universal love of animals. I would be truly touched if you and others sent leads of unique animal events happening in your area to aid in this purpose. Please share this request among friends and follow @ zooeyia.vet as we unearth the global animal bond in 2020!
