Hi all,
So my husband and I just got a puppy! Neither of us have ever owned a dog before and have little idea about what we're doing. Unfortunately, we disagree about discipline. I've done a lot of googling and research and most of it says not to use aggressive methods, but my husband is of the opinion of treating our pup with a pack animal-like mentality. I know in the past that smacking a dog on its nose with a newspaper used to be an acceptable form of discipline and a friend of mine who owns two dogs suggested spanking for things like pottying inside. As far as I've seen however, stuff like this has fallen out of popular usage as positive reinforcement has taken place.
I just wanted to get other people's opinion so let me know how you've trained your dogs out of unwanted behavior and what methods you find are the most rewarding for both the dog and yourselves. Thanks!
**BTW he's a really good pup. We're having the most trouble with biting (he's teething and redirecting doesn't always work).
