I’ve never had a cat before and am not exactly sure what to do rn which is why I’m here. Over the past week or so there’s been a cat turning up in my yard and meowing at me until she’s fed. After the first few days she’s been running up to me and rubbing on me, and letting me pet her while purring. It’s to the point that now when I pass the front door she’s sitting right there and meows when she sees me and keeps trying to get in when the door opens. From what I gathered from neighbors, she was abandoned about a year ago by a family that moved out the next block over, and joined in with a group of stray cats being fed by my elderly neighbor whom I know very well (all the strays have been neutered and spayed btw). Now that my neighbor is getting so old she’s having cognitive and mobility issues, and is forgetting to feed the cats, which is why this one has turned up yelling at me. And I have been making sure the other cats are fed as well, this one in particular just really wants to be part of the family I guess?? I’ve always been a huge animal lover, and have always wanted a cat, the issue is that I live with my parents and my dad does not like cats, and we have two dogs who are not socialized to cats at all. I’m not really sure what the best course of action is here, ideally I’d like to keep her, and even though my dad puts on the front of saying he doesn’t want to keep her he’s bought cans of cat food already to feed her and has been talking to her in the yard. But with my dogs I have no clue what to do. I would just appreciate any and all advice on what to do.
