Moving in less than a year and don't know what to do for my dog. Need Advice.

My dog is 13 years old. I've had him my entire life. I'm 19M and I'm applying to MA programs abroad for Fall 2021.

He has arthritis and some mobility issues but still goes on off-leash walks. He gets grain-free premium dog food, I give him an anti-inflammatory and omega fatty acids for his joints, and I give him treats in his Kong to stimulate his mind. He lives like a king.

But he's most likely to old to move with me to a foreign city. He grew up with a dog buddy with me in my mom's house, but now he's just with me and he does much better in a one-dog home.

The best solution is to give him to my mom who he's familiar with and has an old friend, but I feel bad leaving him because 1) he'll feel abandoned 2) his life won't be as awesome 3) my biggest fear is that he'll be sad because of my absence and that'll be the last straw that makes him pass away.

Would it be crazy to move abroad with him at his age? What should I do and what should I feel?
