Hi guys. I really want to adopt a cat. I grew up with them and have yet to have my own as an adult. My cat, who I had since I was 4 and after college has lived with my parents in another state, recently passed away after 19.5 years. I feel empty without one and I hate knowing there's so many cats who need homes and... now I'm getting off topic.
Here's the problem: I have 2 roommates, among them is 3 dogs. There's a husky (on the smaller side of huskies), a blue lacy mix (medium size), and a 8 month old puppy who's a german shepherd/lab mix. We share a decently sized house and I don't feel space is an issue. However, is it smart to bring in a cat to this environment? The dogs are all friendly, one has had positive experiences with cats, but who's to say? Of course I'd adopt a friendly cat, ideally with experience with dogs. I would also get an adult. I would do everything I can to make the transition of the cat meeting the dogs as smooth as possible. But is it possible?
I don't know if I should just wait until I have my own place or what. Both my roommates say it's fine to get a cat, but I still wonder. Our landlord is surprisingly cool and I doubt would have an issue, I'll ask them if/when I decide to seriously look into adopting.
I'd appreciate any advice/insight/experiences anyone might have.
Thank you so much!
