Greetings,
Lately I've been thinking to get a pet, but as I'm rather limited because of work.
While I'd love to get a dog, my situation is not ideal to have a dog. First of all, I wouldn't really be happy leaving my dog alone at home 5 days a week for ~9 hours and occasional business trips makes it more difficult. Also, holidays will be a lot more difficult(mostly flying, no car).
My wife is not really a big fan of cats(never had it before), but the main issue is with work/holidays again.
I've had fish before, but I've never really felt an attachment. So an aquarium would be the last resort, I guess...
I've been thinking of getting an insect or a reptile. I've had a praying mantis for 6-7 months we got along quite well and I believe there won't be an issue leaving for a week or two, I could automate water/food and have a friend drop by if something goes wrong. Another option in insects would be a tarantula, I've never had one though.
I've never had a reptile either, so I'm totally inexperienced, but I don't expect it to be really difficult. I think, with automation, leaving for up to two weeks should be doable(?).
Just for clarification, wife also works. Sometimes our trips coincide so we're both away at some point. holidays 1-2 times per year(not more than 3 weeks in total).
So, any advice? Any similar experience you might share?
