Diving into the world of pet ramps, looking for advice of a tricky situation.

For context, our little guy is a 12 year old 6lb Maltese with some visual impairment.

My girlfriend and I are moving into a new apartment. Unfortunately it has a set or four or so steps leading from one's section to the other, and our little pupper is too old for stairs. The apartment as a whole is large(~1400 Sq ft) so he'd be comfortable in either half, but we like him to be able to roam free without help or a puppy gate in the way.

The good news is the steps are extra wide. They could easily accommodate some kind of ramp for him with plenty of stair room left for us humans which we'd block off with a gate. The bad news is I'm struggling to find a ramp that would suit our need.

The majority of what I'm finding are designed for getting in a car, on a bed, etc. and as a result have some form of base or legs that would prevent it for being used on stairs. The kind that I'm finding less of, sort of a grippy "plank", could work but it would need to have two requirements A) Have some way of securing it in place or being heavy enough to do so on its own and B) Have a wall on the side to prevent him from accidently falling off the side and onto the stairs. I have been unable to find one with such a wall or barrier.

If anyone has any advice to offer, either first or second hand, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you from me and Kenny.
