Adopted a stray HE WONT STOP CRYING

Hi all! I need some advice. So, this stray cat has been coming to my backyard and I have been feeding him. He was very very friendly and desperate for affection. He would sometimes gaze longingly through the window into the house and try and get inside. I figured, why not? I trapped him and took him to the vet right away and they did all his shots and tests and treated him for fleas. (So unexpectedly expensive!— Also, sadly no microchip or collar). We also have another cat that we rescued from the pound about 3 years ago, a girl. I brought the new boy home and put his carrier into a big canvas play pen that I bought for him because we don’t have many doors in our house to keep the two cats separate. I also blocked off the doors as best I could. He kept crying and trying to escape until he took a long nap and I started petting him and he settled in. Later in the day, I let him out of the pen to explore the room he was in a bit. He was good but would go to the window and cry. When I put him back inside, he was fine because I was still in the room, but when I went to bed he started crying and trying to bust out of the pen— and he succeeded! My boyfriend had to put him back in the small carrier and cover him with a blanket while he was studying for his exam, he wasn’t happy. But the bugger finally calmed down again. Now I’m worried. I wanted to introduce him to my current cat very slowly— to ensure that they have a good chance of getting along, because if they don’t, I have to find him a new home. Any advice on how to make this more bearable for him (and so he isn’t crying so much and distracting my busy boyfriend)? I feel bad keeping him in that tiny carrier every time he starts panicking. Please help, I would love to keep him. He’s currently in the tiny carrier in the garage because he wont stop crying!! ๐Ÿ˜ญ Thank you.
