I have an almost 14yo yorkie terrier. She doesn’t have many teeth but she is protective of me at times. She’s also very emotional. When I first got her I was a child and she chose me. I left that summer for two months and my mom was her person after. But I was second place, she still liked me more than rest of the family. My mom died 5 years ago and my dog and I have been really close. I didn’t leave the house much after my mom died, and during the pandemic. Needless to say, she’s my shadow. All this context to say she is loving and has been through a lot. She’s stayed with family that have cats for weeks before and made peace. I would like to adopt a pair of rescue pigeons, naturally they’d hang out together more than with me. But I’d like the birds to eventually feel safe and be able to bond with me. However I’m concerned about my dogs feelings. Has anyone been in a situation like this? Is it possible my dog will allow bird friends in the house? Will it hurt her feelings badly?
