Calling all cat psychologists! Skip to the bottom for TLDR
I have a cat for 10 years who I took in after spending a few days hanging around my workplace and didn't have a collar. She's weird and quirky and I love her ๐.
Years go by and I move in with my mum temporarily while moving houses. My mother had 2 cats and a dog. My cat freaked TFO when she saw them. That's when I learned that she probably was raised alone and never interacted with other animals.
Fast forward till the last couple days, a stray cat in my street 'chose' me.. Like really.. Followed me around. Had very tattered fur and seemed very hungry. I gave him a tin of food and water and a little box with some old tshirts to chillax in on my porch. Over the past few days I noticed him looking markedly healthier and I'm getting quite fond of this little bugger. My cat is always inside so they won't clash. I figured I might end up having an outside cat and an inside cat ๐.
Problem is, inside cat can smell outside cat on me. She's spent the whole day today coming up to me for attention, with every subsequent meow getting deeper and finally hissing and growling at me.
TLDR; my cat that is freaked out by the existence of other cats, can smell another cat on me and is being aggressive.
Is there any way I can get her used to outside cat's smell? I want to avoid having to change clothes every time I spend some time with outside cat.
