Kittens put their head/paws against a dirty/rusted(?) window screen

And now they have a coat of dirt/black(I don’t even know what it is) everywhere mostly on their head and paws

I just adopted them a few days ago and never thought of this. I understand it might have been irresponsible to keep the window open in the first place not having realized how dirty/old the screen is, but I don’t want them trying to lick it off and ingesting something they’re not supposed to. Please help! I can show photos if you dm me. Thanks in advance.
