Hi! Sorry if this topic is an old one, I just couldn't find any posts anywhere, so I made this one :)
Anyway, my 11 yo cat got recently diagnosed with diabetes, and she as other health problems as well. Weight loss, diarrhea, dry skin... It has been very hard for me emotionally, we still don't know fully what's wrong with her since diabetes doesn't explain all her symptoms but blood and urine panel didn't show anything else.
We are giving her insulin, and I have started her on a raw food diet, which has fixed her upset stomach. She doesn't have diarrhea anymore and doesn't drink excessive amounts of water. So, we're slowly getting there. She's starting to be quite energetic whereas before she was just tired and lethargic all the time.
I couldn't have done all that without all the Vet visits and research on how to improve cats lives. This situation started about three weeks ago, and at first my husband was fully supporting and comforting me. Especially at the beginning when I was sad and stressed because I didn't know what was wrong.
Now he blames for caring for the cat and ignoring him. I don't even like to talk to him about this stuff anymore, he gets visibly upset every time I talk about my cat and her health. And I get it, it can be annoying because I have been very worried and been obsessing over it, but this is huge change in her and our lives, it takes a little while until things settle down to our new routine and diet.
Is there anything I can do? I already feel very overwhelmed and alone. My husband has also been a little depressed during the last six months because of Covid related stuff, we both have. So I don't want to blame him because he tries to be supportive. It's just starting to feel like I have to either choose between my cat or my husband and they both are my family, I love them both more than I can say. Me showing love for my sick cat shouldn't take anything away from my husband.
I have referred to the cat as "my cat" because like I said, she's 11 yo and me and my husband have been together for 8 years. But we never had these problems before. Hubby wasn't much of cat person but he likes the cat, and over the years they have developed their own bond.
