My partner and I just moved to a new apartment about three weeks ago we have renters remorse about - it's an older house/duplex and has some mold and bug issues we didn't realize up front. We've taken care of the mold, but we have some bugs that still get in (ants, click beetles, and possibly roaches but we've only seen one or two) but we have bait traps, are keeping things super clean, and keeping our eye on it and informed the landlord. But the toughest part is our cat seems to be struggling getting used to the new place.
This is his first move - we adopted him when he was 1 and he's only ever lived with us in our old apartment which he was super comfortable and relaxed in. But here he walks around the place nervously, pacing, meowing, and startling all the time at normal, stationary things. He's acting out and eating less. He's young, too, so I didn't expect him to struggle getting used to things quite as much.
In retrospect, we could have eased the move in a couple ways (it was our first time moving with a pet as well and learned a lot) but I'm at a loss at what to do at this point now that the move is done. Is there any way to help your cat get used to a place? How long should it take for a cat to get used to a new place - are there some cats that just don't ever get used to a new place? Is this something to be concerned about or am I overreacting? I'd love any advice from people who have moved with pets before!
