As a preface, we (my partner and I) moved at the beginning of August, but I wasn’t able to move my cats until last week. One of my cats, my Siamese has taken the move just fine. The other one, my Russian Blue, has been throwing a child’s temper tantrum. At first, they weren’t allowed outside since I wanted them to get used to the house first. I thought all these horrible behaviors were based on being stuck inside, but since being let outside, his behavior has only gotten worse.
It started with using potted plants as a bathroom, and then getting onto the kitchen counters to eat leftovers. Now he’s taken to getting on the counters shamelessly while we’re cooking and knocking plants over. His episode today included stealing a bag of bagels off of the counter and eating like half of all of them, and then peeing in our bed. It was such a large volume of liquid that it went through multiple layers and still soaked our mattress, like he had been holding in his piss.
I’ve had them both since they were a month old, and they are both a bit over a year old now. I’m at my wits end with this cat. Ive tried tin foil and tape on the counter, he’s become “immune” to clapping and loud noises, but still responds to water spritzing even though it doesn’t seem to effect him much, as he’ll go back to his bad behavior as soon as we’ve left the room. My partner thinks I should try to rehome him with my parents. I really don’t want to have to get rid of him but I feel like there’s nothing else to try. Ive been working nonstop and coming home to this is exhausting. Any advice, please.
