My dog was recently sprayed in the face by a skunk while he was outside. Unfortunately we weren't home at the time and unsure how long it's been. We're estimating 3-5 hours and we immediately started giving him a bath. We then looked online and did the peroxide baking soda bath and shampoo multiple rounds and it helped the smell immensely. We were careful to try not to get the mixture near his eyes. The problem is he got sprayed right across the top of his nose, so we carefully used a small towel and dabbed a watered-down version of the peroxide baking soda mixture.
I noticed that one eye had more tear stain. I was then concerned that maybe he got sprayed in the eye. I know that there are some pet eye washes or recommend a cool water rinse, but he won't let us get near his eyes. He hates having even water dripping on his face. We did the best we could during the bath and hope some of the water got in his eyes. My question is, how concerned should I be and what I should be looking out for and whether I need to take any other immediate action. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, he's eating fine, still taking treats, and allowing us to pet him. I tried to look carefully around the lids and whites of his eyes and didn't notice any differences between the two. Any advice is welcome and thanks in advance!!
