we adopted my 4 year old great pyrenees a few months ago and he has been overall great. Barks a lot (as to be expected) and is super friendly and sweet.
However he can get crazy about food. The other day my pyr stole the sandwich off my plate that was right in front of me and i was shocked and yelled NO and pushed him away and he kept trying to go back to the sandwich but i kept pushing him away and saying no and i was manhandling him a little trying to get him out of the room mad then he turned around and “bit” me a few times. he growled and very lightly bit me on my left arm then right then left again. it left very light punctures that weren’t bleeding, and then it was over.
Then today he escaped our yard and went on the hot asphalt and burned his paws. i was trying to put ointment on it and he was getting peanut butter to lick by my SO while i was attempting to put the ointment on it but he was not having it and growled and turned around to bite me. again, lightly and it left no punctures.
i’m worried not only that he has lost trust in me because of the biting that has all happened lately but because he has now been biting a lot and i am worried it could get worse. we adopted him after he was given up by biting someone (he bit an abusive father/husband in defense of the wife and child). we love him and he is so sweet, but i am nervous his behavior might escalate from here. has anyone been in a situation like this before with their pyr and how did you handle it?
TL;DR - my pyr has been lightly biting people lately and has a history of being a bigger biter, what should my next course of action be and has my pyr lost trust in me?
