My mom would adopt dogs all the time, we had one named lucy. Lucy we got from a rescue, she was tied up for 7 years to a tree because she barked at anyone who walked by(my mom noticed this and offered to take the dog.) I was 7 and lucy runs away across the lawn, i dive and try and grab her with all my might. She slips my grasp. Lucy then runs past 5 houses too a busy street. I am within 10 feet of her as i chase her. A long beach city bus is barreling down the street at 35mph. I chase her as she flees into the 4 lane city street, then witnessed my dog explode onto me as that bus hit lucy. I carry her body with a trail of blood leading to my driveway. My 8 year old mind could not process that she was dead instantly. I live with this memory everyday, and her name was lucy and she loved belly rubs.
