Okay so I have a bit of a tricky situation. I live next door to my grandmas sister. She has always had outdoor kitties that she feeds and takes care of. She had a stray that she was taking care of for awhile, and then our neighbors kid ended up befriending him. Being a stray obviously my grand aunt just let him do whatever he wanted; but he did still come over here all the time to eat and get cuddles. Now the complicated part. My neighbors moved away almost 4 months ago, and they left him behind. I started to help take care of him with my grand aunt. I felt bad for the poor kitty; he was always on my doorstep wanting to come in. I have an indoor cat of my own, so I couldn’t let him in, but I would go outside to hang out with him instead. After a few months I decided I ought to get him to the vet to get his shots to prevent him from giving me or my cat anything. I got his vaccines and i’m due to go back for his booster shots in 3 weeks. I had him licensed as well. I have not received the physical license in the mail yet. Shortly after that, my grand aunt tells me the neighbors came by to talk to us about taking the cat back. He told her that he and his kid came over to play with the cat (in our yard without permission & without us knowing!!!) and said that his kid talked to me about it a few days earlier and that I apparently agreed to them taking the cat. no one ever came to talk to me! So they told my grand aunt they were gonna bring the cat home with them when they get an apartment. She then relayed that to me, which made me very upset. I got his phone number to get in contact. I wanted to tell him that I had adopted him and that he was staying with me, and he had been for the past few months. I told him that I had gotten him shots and a license. He got very angry with me and kept accusing me of stealing his cat. (who he left behind!!!!) He continued to demand the cat back because his kid misses him. I of course can understand that the kid is upset, and I hate to upset them, but demanding the cat back after almost 4 months seems crazy! This was all over text, so we had been arguing on and off all day. He kept going on and on about how I stole his cat and was taking care of him without his consent. (Remember, this was one of my grand aunts strays before it was ever their cat.) He ended up saying he was gonna bring the sheriff to my house which is fine, I don’t mind explaining the situation to the police. Still nothing with that so far. The next day his kid starts to text me. Basically said the exact same thing as the dad did the day before. They ended up saying “i’m stealing ur cat” and blocked me. Those were their exact words and I have the texts to prove it. So here I am looking for some opinions on the matter. I really don’t know what to do here and I’m afraid he’ll show up one day and take the cat without me knowing about it. What am I supposed to do in this kind of situation? Any advice is much appreciated. :(
