So we live in a pretty crowded area. Our gardens, and the gardens of about ten other neighbors are all connected through one alleyway. The issue is that on this alley there are about five other cats all fighting for territory and our cat is losing. She's gotten hurt now twice and now it has been so bad that the doctor was seriously worried for an infection to take her leg. Miraculously and with a lot of antibiotics she's on the mend.
We are now trying to keep her indoors but even with a large variety of toys she's still very miserable and depressed. She constantly meows wanting to go out.
We used to have two cats, but earlier this year our other cat was murdered by the neighbor's cats and we still don't know which one was the culprit. There are two that are constantly coming into our garden for a stand off with our cat.
We thought keeping her indoors is really the only way but she is just so miserable. I am lost knowing what to do and am looking for advice on how to make our little fur-baby happy and safe again. We've considered at least three options.
-
Get another kitty about her same age (2 years old) as a playmate. However given she's been attacked by other cats more than once I'm really worried how this will go. It's not fair for the 2nd cat if this won't go well.
-
Wall off the garden. However this has proven difficult as there are trees and low walls for her to jump and climb over. If she bounces we'll only make it harder for her to come back.
-
Re-home her somewhere where she has the room and territory to be happy. This is really the last thing we want to do. We love her to bits and want to do everything in our power to make her happy.
We are honestly at our last energy. I have no idea what to do about this and it's so hard to see her struggle, especially after we already lost our other one this year
