Hello! So I got a dog my freshman year of college and had him for 4 whole years under my care. He was my best friend and couldn’t have imagined college without him. After graduation I got a job that was very demanding as far as long hours, night shift, and was also living in a place that wasn’t dog friendly. Because of this I had my parents watch him in the meantime, but I wasn’t able to get a better job until a whole year later. I know my parents love him a lot and he helps keep them active after work and on the weekends. However, not that I have a normal schedule once again I’d really like to get him back.
My parents are at a house with a backyard for them to let him out whenever and run around. The dog has both of them there so I imagine that’s extra attention. I’m currently at an apartment that’s very dog friendly with a dog park.
My parents are saying that changing environments this late in a dogs life isn’t good and that it might be better for me and my girlfriend to get a dog together once she moves in. Even though I had him for 4 years and they also really want to keep him.
Not sure what to do in this scenario. I want my old dog back but I also want my parents to have the perks of having a great dog.
