Hey all,
Been a rough 5 days. Cat had to have a partial tail amputation, his cone of shame wasn’t big enough, and he attacked his tail. Emergency vet got that bandaged up, we got him a bigger cone, we got him an inflatable donut to put on when we took his cone off for eating, and 2 days later, he kicked the cone off and attacked his tail again. Enough damage was done that they had to amputate more. Both times he attacked, he did it so fast that there wasn’t enough time to stop him. We’re keeping both the larger collar (plastic tied with gauze) and the donut on him at all times now (this is still within the first 24 hours of the second amputation at the time of posting). Unfortunately, he was able to kick both off at once, and they were as tight as they could be without strangling him. He didn’t go for his tail this time, fortunately, but based on how quick he got it the first two times, I’m not sure I would have intercepted him if he had gone for it.
So I’m looking for ideas. Possibly a fabric foldable one to add to the mix, something to make it harder for him to get a grip on the collar/donut to kick them off? Or some kind of collar/harness combo that can pull right around his neck but also have a strap that secures around his body too? Any ideas or product recommendations are very appreciated. I don’t know how many more emergency vet trips while covered in cat blood I can handle.
